Lights, camera, SWARTLAND!
Swartland High will be hosting a fabulous show, called The Diva. Not only is it a great way to gain publicity for our prestigious school, but it’s also a way to explore and showcase the talents of our students. So, I decided to dig a little deeper into the backbone of this musical, none other than Mrs. Kreuiter and Mrs. Van Staden.
It took Mrs. Kreuiter around a week to write the musical, though there was no particular inspiration. She likes to write things and feels that if you are a creative person, you should do something creative. Mrs. Kreuiter is very excited for the musical, but it will be difficult for her to juggle her responsibilities at school and rehearsals.
Parents have offered to help with costumes and props and Mrs. Kreuiter designed a minimal set. This set will be as minimal as possible and the glitz and glamour will al be in the performers on stage. Mrs. Kreuiter also has the help of the following teachers Mrs Jooste, Miss Hunlun, Mr Spies, Mrs Myburg, Mr Dyason, Mrs Turner, Mrs Horn, Mrs Swart, Miss Jordaan and Mrs Loubser.
The idea behind the theme of the musical is to create unity among every grade group. Every grade group is represented throughout the musical. It’s not only for drama students, though Mrs. Kreuiter appreciates them. She leaves the traditional drama to the drama students. Mrs. Kreuiter has written fourteen musicals for Swartland High, all have been massive successes. So, without a doubt, I know that this one will be too.
None of this would have been possible without Mrs. Kreuiter’s partner, Mrs. Van Staden.
Mrs. Van Staden started playing piano at the age of six years! She will be playing a classical piece in some of the scenes. Her inspiration is situations around her, and she likes a challenge. Like Mrs. Kreuiter, she knows that a lot of hard work lies ahead but she is also excited. Mrs. Van Staden hopes that everyone who partakes in the musical will enjoy it.
Judging by Mrs. Kreuiter’s writing and her determination, and Mrs. Van Staden’s musical talents, we know that this will be a huge success.
